Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth–Bing and Bowie

I don’t think it takes much explanation why this is a guilty pleasure.  David Bowie–Ziggy Stardust, Alladin Sane, the Thin White Duke,–and Der Bingle, the epitome of gender bending rock as spectacle and the icon of square, if cool, mid-20th century upright American Christmas, doggone it.

According to Wikipedia, the track was originally recorded for Crosby’s 1977 television special Bing Crosby’s Merrie Olde Christmas, which sort of adds to the surreal nature of it.  For years the track was available only as a bootleg, but it has been available in various media and formats legally since 1982.

I still do a reality check whenever I hear or see this and I wait for the Harry Connick/Marilyn Manson duet on “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.”
